Mode of Action: Increases the permeability of the cell membrane of sensitive fungi by binding to sterols.
Antimicrobial spectrum: Yeasts and molds.

Nystatin is effective as a suspension. Prepare 50 mg/ml stock suspensions in water and store at −20 °C. Stable at 37 °C for 3 days. Use in tissue culture at 50 μg/ml.

制霉菌素是一种多烯型抗生素，分子式C47H75NO17。1950年发现土壤微生物Streptomyces noursei能分泌一种抗霉菌的物质，从而发现了第一种抗霉菌的抗生素。制霉菌素具有共轭多烯大环内酯结构，能抑制真菌和皮藓菌的活性，对细菌无抑制作用。黄色或黄棕色粉末，有特殊气味及引湿性菌谱及抗菌机理与两性霉素B相似。可与真菌细胞膜上的甾醇相结合，致细胞膜通透性的改变，以致重要细胞内容物漏失而发挥抗真菌作用。
